Coyote Creek Golf Resort, New Course Build*
Client | Coyote Creek Golf Resort, Sundre, AB
Status | Completed 2008
Project Type | 18-hole New Golf Course Build
Located along the Cowboy Trail in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, just south of Sundre, Alberta, is the Coyote Creek Golf Resort.
Opened for play in 2005 and 2008 respectively, the Coyote Creek Golf Resort includes two nine-hole courses – the Deer and Coyote nines. Both courses are carved from the surrounding coniferous forest, but each has a unique character. The Deer Nine offers an intimate, tree-lined feel and the Coyote Nine provides a more open layout with strategic water hazards and deep, sprawling bunkers providing the challenge.
A network of intermittent streams bisects this spectacular property presenting numerous strategic playing options. In addition to contributing to fluctuating scores, this stream network serves an important function to mitigate rising water levels from the nearby Red Deer River. The efficacy of this system was on display during the floods of 2013, when water flows were largely contained to these waterways and damage to the course was minimized.
